I suppose this is what happened on that *other* forum.

Just read someones post (elsewhere, not Christian) about foxes killing ducks.

These aren't farmyard or pet ducks, they are wild, yet the writer seems to be treating it all a bit personally, and others are sympathising.

I don't know if I'm being hard, but I just don't grieve for every dead animal.
I'm wondering if this not coping with death and the *natural* world is all going a bit far.
A fox is never going to act like a human, it's a fox !!!

Foxes are blamed for all kinds of things because people don't understand the way they work. They kill for food not pleasure. They kill to feed themselves and their young. They kill to fill their larders for harder times.
When we think they are killing indiscriminately, they are being proficient.
If the dead prey is left alone, the foxes will come back for it.
If it's removed, they'll be back for it, but need to kill more.

Of course, just with everything in a fallen world, there can be rogue foxes, dogs, cats and even ducks!!!

An easy way to stop foxes killing is to feed them [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I am such a plonker. I re-read the post, and it was garden chickens not wild ducks [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Having said that.................

Someone I know had a chicken took by a fox, their attitude was that it's normal, and it was his own fault for not securing them properly.

I know you've had ducks taken Anne, how would you approach this?

When a fox gets into a henhouse and all the hens panic so does the fox. And a lot of damage is done.

Now fox hunting with dogs is in theory illegal it may be that the hunts will stop breeding foxs.

Foxes panicking is a falicy John.

The kill more than they need, take the main kill to feed on, then come back to stash their *larders*.
Usually by this time, the spare kill has been removed, so they kill again, and so on.
I heard someone say that if the kill is left where the fox can get it, they'll come back for it, and ultimately less animals get killed.

My personal opinion is that chickens etc should be secure enough to deter foxes, dogs etc.

I don't agree with hunting for pleasure, but there's nothing wrong with a clean kill with a gun if foxes need to be culled.
